Located in the low latitude area, it has a temperate plateau and mountain monsoon climate. The four seasons isn't very distinctive. From the foot of the mountain to the peak, it has a very distinctive climate change. The annual average temperature is between 12.6 and 19.9 degrees Celsius. The annual precipitation is between 910 and 1040mm. The rain season is between June to September. Non-frost days is about 191 to 310.
Lijiang City has a lot of nationalities, such as Naxi, Yi, Bai, Pumi and so on. The dominant local ethnic minority in Lijiang is Naxi, with many Yi and Bai in the area. The Naxi are reputedly 'matriarchal' and hence the subject of much interest among Chinese and foreign tourists, though what this means is subject to much dispute. Naxi are matrilineal, insofar as property is traditionally inherited down the female line, and men move into their wife's family home after marriage.
Lijiang has the best preserved ancient town in China - the Old Town which has been listed in the World Cultural Heritages by UNESCO in 1997. The Old Town was once the center of Lijiang and continues to maintain the original flavor of the local lifestyle, the typical groups of buildings and the profound cultural heritage of the region.
